I first went to BioHealth practitioner Dr. Tracy Tranchitella
in October of 2000. I had been suffering for over 15 years with
chronic sinus infections and bronchitis. I had been to allergists
who diagnosed non-allergic rhinitis, and said to avoid dairy. I
had started working with an acupuncturist, who helped, but I was
interested in further diagnostic testing for food allergies and
help with choosing the best supplementation for me.
Dr. Tranchitella had me do blood work to determine my basic levels,
and a saliva test for food intolerances. The blood work indicated
that several of my levels were low including zinc and B12, so she
custom tailored a supplement program for me. The saliva test indicated
that I was very sensitive to corn and gluten and to some extent
rice and soy. I was directed to avoid corn and gluten (wheat, barley,
oats & rye), and to rotate rice and soy. She also had me do
a liver detox program to clear out my liver, which included a tasty
smoothie with flax oil and ground flaxseeds added. I also added
Cod Liver Oil. She also had me add probiotic supplementation (HMF
Forte or Replete) to increase the friendly bacteria in my intestines.
Dr. Tranchitella ordered some adrenal tests, which indicated that
my adrenal glands were exhausted. I began a three-month program
of supplements to boost my adrenals, including vitamins and sublingual
licorice, DHEA and pregnenolone.
In January 2001, I went to see Dr. Woeller. After an osteopathic
treatment, he indicated that my body was very stagnant. I was felling
very tired, and my hands and feet were cold. He ordered thyroid
level testing, and the results indicated that I was slightly hypothyroid.
He prescribed 30 grains of Armour Thyroid 2x per day, which eliminated
my cold hands and feet.
In April 2001, Dr. Tranchitella had me do a month long hormone
profile test. The test indicated that my progesterone level dropped
off quickly at the end of my cycle. Therefore, she suggested that
I take progesterone drops on a graduated schedule.
In June 2001, I was still feeling fatigued, so Dr. Tranchitella
had me do another liver flush diet and liver support supplements.
Then, she ordered a comprehensive digestive stool analysis. This
test indicated that I had two types of intestinal bacteria (Pseudomas
aeruginosa and Citrobacter freundii). Dr. Woeller prescribed an
antibiotic that would kill the bacteria, and a re-test indicated
that they were gone.
In August 2001, Dr. Woeller suggested a Candida blood test, which
indicated that I had Candida antibodies in my blood stream, and
leaky gut syndrome. Dr. Tranchitella had me go on a very restrictive
Candida diet for three weeks, which basically allowed me to eat
mostly organic meat and vegetables, and some nuts. The first three
weeks were the most difficult, but after that I became used to the
diet and the affects of the Candida die-off lessened.
Dr. Tranchitella had me take several supplements to combat the
Candida including oregano oil (ADP), bromelain CLA, Saccharomyces
boulardi, Hepol and fresh garlic. She also had me do the adrenal
support program for three more months during my Candida treatment.
I added lemon juice, aloe vera juice, and Transfer Factors/Colostrum
a month later.
Dr. Woeller prescribed Carafate for two months to heal my gut,
and after the first three-week phase of the diet, he had me take
Diflucan for one week a month for three months. I continued on the
anti-Candida diet (no sugar, no yeast) for three more months, but
was gradually allowed a few more foods including tomatoes, some
berries, and some rice.
I stuck to the diet very carefully as I wanted to get rid of the
Candida once and for all. They re-tested for Candida in January
of 2001, and all of the results were negative indicating that I
was yeast free, and had healed my leaky gut. I had lost 10 pounds,
and felt like I was in the best health in many years. I had osteopathic
treatments from Dr. Woeller, and my body responded well and was
flowing again.
I have been able to reduce the number of supplements that I take
to a multi-vitamin, vitamin C, calcium and zinc in order to maintain
my health. I can take others as necessary when needed. I continue
on a balanced, whole food gluten free diet while rotating other
grains, and avoiding sugar most of the time. I continue to drink
smoothies with flaxseeds and flaxseed oil, and take Cod Liver Oil
in the winter.
I have not had a sinus infection or bronchitis or really even a
cold for over two years now. I believe that my immune system is
now functioning optimally. It was a journey determining what was
causing the weakness to my system, but I had faith that Dr. Tranchitella
and Dr. Woeller would guide me in becoming optimally healthy. After
years of being dismissed by doctors, and told to live with my symptoms,
I am so grateful to BioHealth for treating me as a whole person
and assisting me through the process to reach optimum health.
